Sutter's Fort has collected historical material since it was reconstructed in the 1890s. The strength of this collection is the material culture of 19th-century immigrants to California that it represents - furniture, housewares, tools and equipment, portraits, photographs, diaries, letters, maps, business records, and more.

Join Friends of Sutter's Fort for a special members tour of the Sutter's Fort Collections with Nancy Jenner, Curator of the State Indian Museum and Sutter's Fort State Historic Park!

This special walking tour provides a unique behind-the-scenes look at the extensive Sutter's Fort collections located at the Statewide Museum Collections Center (SMCC), California's largest collection of artifacts archival documents, and photographs. This state of the art facility holds over 1 million historic objects and artifacts from State Parks throughout California - including many important items that are too delicate to be moved or placed on display.

Please note that this is a members' only event and you must be a member to attend.

This talk and tour will run approximately 2 hours and is FREE to Friends of Sutter's Fort members and their guest.

Not a member? Join Friends of Sutter's Fort to attend this and other member events!

Space for this talk and tour is limited and registration is required. Limit 25 attendees.

ABOUT NANCY:

Nancy Jenner has been the curator at Sutter’s Fort since 2009, and in 2014 also became the curator at the State Indian Museum.

“My greatest joy as a curator comes from spending time researching the people connected to the historical and cultural objects in our collections. Knowing more about the original owner or maker of a collection item makes it part of a human story, rather than just an inanimate object. I enjoy sharing those stories with visitors."

Prior to joining State Parks, Nancy spent seven years the Archaeology Collection technician at CSU Fullerton, and earned a Masters in Anthropology from that institution.
