We may no longer offer free day use admission to Sutter's Fort State Historic Park to new or renewing members (current members will continue to receive free admission for the the duration of their membership). These changes are necessary for Friends of Sutter's Fort to be consistent with California State Parks policies.

Why Join the Friends of Sutter's Fort?

Friends of Sutter's Fort is a nonprofit 501 (C)(3) cooperating association that believes in the power of experiencing history at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park (SHP).

We collaborate every day with California State Parks to preserve and protect Sutter's Fort SHP, and to deliver the critical funding needed to provide over 100,000 visitors each year with educational experiences that bring history to life.

Since our founding, we have been dedicated to helping California State Parks bridge the funding gap between what is allocated annually at Sutter's Fort SHP, and what is needed in order to restore historic structures, preserve important artifacts, improve visitor experience, and provide exceptional educational programming to the nearly 50,000 students that visit the park each year.

With your help, we can:

  • Continue to repair and replace interpretive tools and supplies that allow us to share what the Fort was like in the 1840s.
  • Expand our popular and family-friendly Hands on History events, as well as other interpretive programming.
  • Provide grants to schools participating in one of our many educational programs.
  • Fund critical preservation projects such as the recently completed restoration and repainting of the exterior walls.
